The Target Corporation has just launched a line of rainbow-studded t-shirts supporting gay pride season, aiming to donate up to $120,000 of the proceeds to the pro-gay Family Equality Council.
This may come as a shock to many gay rights activists, who remember Target sadly for its past contributions to MN Forward, a group that supported anti-gay political candidate Tom Emmer. However, Target also gets consistently high rankings on the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index, and it’s a sponsor of Minneapolis-area Pride events.
“Target is not anti-gay,” Michael Francis, Target’s executive vice president and chief marketing officer, told The Los Angeles Times. “It’s important to set the record straight and provide some context.”
The shirts are apparently only available online and through the month of June. Get yours here. And in the meantime, what do you think about this? Is it a change of heart, or has Target always been allied?
It was definitely a really positive experience. I went into the meeting with a headache (and a bleeding shoulder, thanks to Mel), and I ended up completely forgetting about it. I’ve never heard the GSA so quiet! :P
If I get re-elected as co-pres next year, I’m definitely going to work on getting more speakers to come in.
That awesome moment when you know this girl is going to change the world!! Even more awesome…I got a little bit more Tumblr famous. :D
^this girl? shes gonna move fucking mountains.
Jesus let me be here when she does.
In which a bisexual male student in Washington, D.C. gets suspended for wearing a skirt, heels and a wig to school. Oh, my. More.
So I have a ton of these lovely shirts lying around:
And I want to give one away!!
So here are the rules:
- Reblog as many times as you wish - every reblog is an entry into the drawing. Just be aware that you might lose followers if you reblog it 100 times in a row
- You do not have to be following me
- That being said, if you do follow me, that’s one extra entry into the drawing pool. I gotta reward the people who put up with me daily, ya know!
- I will ship anywhere in the world. Except Narnia, sorry.
- I will pick a winner on June 1st. :)
I have various colors and various sizes between S-XL (not all colors come in all sizes - I just have the inventory from my school’s gay/straight alliance).
These are super awesome shirts and Dianna Agron tweeted about them, so you’ll probably want one, eh?
(Also, I’ll sell some for $10, plus shipping, in case you REALLY want one, and don’t mind paying. I just can’t afford to buy all of them and give them away. All the money goes into my school’s gay/straight alliance. And also also, I’ll probably do another giveaway later on this summer.)
So the GSA at our school has been putting up posters saying “love is love” but I guess someone was dissatisfied with that.
The main reason I posted the graphic was because I thought it made it obvious that pan and bi were different. I think the choice of the graphic being associated with the umbrella was just to make the words somewhat organized. I don’t think the placement of the words was intended to claim that any of the words below were necessarily part of the words above. You have every right to disagree though. As the image says, “This text represents one person’s opinion and is not meant to speak for anybody else.”
